The Process of Discipleship

Jul 5, 2026    David Tyler Shull

In a world obsessed with identity, politics, culture, and self-expression, one question remains: Who does God say you are?

In this powerful message from 1 Peter 2:9-12, we discover that our identity as believers is not rooted in our background, achievements, political views, social status, or personal desires—but in God's declaration over our lives. We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a people belonging to God.

Drawing from Israel's journey out of Egypt, this teaching reveals a life-changing truth: salvation happens in a moment, but discipleship takes a lifetime. It took one night for Israel to leave Egypt, but forty years for Egypt to leave Israel. In the same way, God calls us not only to be saved, but to be transformed.

What is discipling you? Culture? Entertainment? Social media? Your friends? Or the Holy Spirit?

This message challenges believers to pursue intentional spiritual formation, biblical community, and daily surrender to the work of God within us. Christianity is more than avoiding hell—it's becoming more like Jesus.
